Welcome to the Ashburnham Fire Department web site.
The town of Ashburnham is located in North Central Massachusetts, about 35 miles north of Worcester and 55 miles northwest of Boston. We service a community of approximately 7500 citizens and cover 35 square miles of terrain.
The town has many lakes and streams and is populated with houses along the lakes, access to the lakes is private.
The fire department was originally formed in 1855, using traditional horse drawn wagons and leather buckets.
Some years later the town purchased the Undine handtub to make fire fighting a bit easier. The handtub is still in use today but is privately owned and still participates in traditional musters.
Today the department is lead by Chief Paul Zbikowski. a Deputy chief, 2 Battalion chiefs, and 3 Lieutenants.
We have 30 call members and run an ALS service ambulance since 2003. We have 4 fulltime members including the Chief.
Call volume averages between 600 & 800 calls a year with fire & EMS combined.
